The Mi TV 2S comes with the latest version of MIUI which is based on Android 5.0. The standout feature of the new TV set is its aluminium frame that’s only 9.9mm thin. The Mi TV 2S has a 48-inch 4K display which can decode 4K at 60Hz. The 10-bit panel is made by Samsung and has a 85% NTSC color gamut coverage. MStar 6A928 SoC with four Cortex A17 CPU cores clocked at 1.4GHz and a Mali T760MP4 GPU are the kernels powering the device. Connectivity-wise, we find two HDMI 2.0 ports as well as one USB 3.0, port Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The Mi TV 2S comes with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The TV features the Dolby technology for better sound output. Xiaomi claims that even the ‘power plug is a work of art’ as the company has partnered with world’s largest power cord supplier to design 12 plugs in 6 months. Furthermore, the Mi TV 2S is said to get a 18% higher color saturation than other TVs and thanks to its precise backlight module design, it prevents light leakage.
The Mi TV 2S is available in pink, blue, green, gold and other color options, selling for 2,999 Yuan ($485) in China. Xiaomi also has a separate Cinema Edition of the 2S that which features a separate speaker system including a horizontal sound bar and a dedicated subwoofer. This model will retail for Yuan 3,999 ($645). Both versions will be available from July 22 and Xiaomi is going to partner for the launch with content providers such as Youku, BesTV, PPTV and others. The color options for the device is another unusual feat in the TV industry, and along with the very slim profile, this could be a steal for those who love such shiny toys. It’s just a pity that it’s very hard to buy this product if you’re not living in China. Xiaomi has also announced the new Mi Water Purifier, as well, which joins the Mi Air Purifier that the company announced back in December.
